Global Warming, Climate Change or New Tax Opportunity?

Filed under: Internet Marketing — Geoff @ 4:19 pm

The Internet is a great place to push your point of view or promote a product, even if it’s unfair, unnecessary & imposing. Take for example Global Warming & Climate Change, two greatest keywords of this decade.
If you type Global Warming or Climate Change into Google you will notice that there is an endless list of government & scientific (supported by government) sites which try to push an idea and explain us that the judgement day is not far away & if we don’t stop now we are all going to starve, die from thirst, freeze or overheat (depends how lucky you are, but I personally prefer heat & on Spanish villa) & suffer from flooding & hurricanes. Even Bill Clinton got his own PPC ad… to fight the cause or… support his wife?
I’m a big fan of nature and nothing makes me happier than threes, forest smells and sounds. I believe that everybody & everything has a right to be an equal part of the planet but I don’t believe in Climate Change Doctrine!!!
If you have intelligent & inquisitive kids, you are probably forced to watch programmes about dinosaurs, who had ruled the world for millions of years and eventually became instinct due to climate change (one of the reasons). And the poor animals did nothing about it - neither increased taxation for bigger appetite & greenery consumption nor changed their lavish life style. Even cold and grim Scotland once was the place to farm & Antarctica was green. So it’s all happened before!
And if it happened before why shouldn’t it happen again? Who are we humans to think that we can change the cause of the universe? We can’t fight climate change but we can fight pollution and change our attitudes from being the ruler of the world to a sharer of the planet.
Climate change is inevitable and these are stages of development of our planet. We need to realise that resources are scarce and reduction in pollution can be achieved by increased quality of the products and new technology, which means to move away from consumerism, corporate overpowering & over production to minimum needs strategy and local produce, where household goods will last for hundred years and use a minimum amount of energy with a possibility to be improved over the time, the food won’t travel around the globe to land in local supermarket, everything is recycled and citizens take a part in local community activities to plant trees and keep the area clean and tidy.
It’s not for everybody’s taste as it means a loss of huge profits & power for many of the organisations & governments, life standards, as we see them now, probably will go down, but look, how much we can gain!!
We can work together and become more human & responsible and isn’t it a real standard of life that we need? But instead of being encouraged, we are getting taxed and punished, which leaves a big hole in average household pocket and worsens the situation as people go for a cheaper and at the end of the day less invironmantal or healthy options.

Brand influence on PPC results

Filed under: Internet Marketing — Geoff @ 4:26 pm

For every company, the brand name is the most important. If Wikipedia sold a service they would make a fortune from doing PPC on their brand term - being one of the top five search terms for the best part of 2 years now. Even SMEs will find that their brand name is creating searches in Google and the other top search engines. The more exposure that you have across the internet (and also offline) will help drive brand related searches. Not only this but the more brand awareness advertising you do will drive more direct traffic to your site through typing in your URL.

Why is this important? A strong brand leads to an increase in sales through reputation. Especially when online is concerned, there is growing fears of being ripped off by rogue traders – established brands are trusted and have a reputation for delivering quality of service and quality products.

Here is an example of why branding is so important. Take XL who currently sponsors West Ham FC. They get a massive amount of brand exposure because of the high profile league they are in, however isn’t it a dubious name….? When I first saw their brand name on the football shirts I thought Microsoft had updated the name of MS Excel to something more up-to-date. I was completely wrong. This is actually XL holidays.

Has anyone else noticed recently the update in name on the West Ham branding from XL to XL holidays? This may just be that I have only just noticed it but I am sure this is a recent change. I think this is because people are confusing the brand name with the already well established name of MS Excel, why else would they do it? Just shows the importance of a strong brand name, and also the symbiotic nature it must form between the products or services sold. The same again can be said for B&Q – what a good idea to do their web address as diy.com, thus creating the symbiotic link between brand and industry/service.

How is your brand?
