Mobile Phone Ads

Google

MSN

Mobile phone ads has accrued $1.9 billion worldwide in 2006. Sounds a lot, but is set to grow at an unprecedented rate.

Mobile Phone advertising is becoming more popular because of it's effectiveness of reaching people. In 2006, 72 million people have mobile phones in the UK and the use of the internet on them is growing by the day.

Mobile Phone Ads have proven another source for driving revenue. At the moment companies advertising on Mobile Phones are at the forefront of advertising, making the most of a high volume of traffic with lower advertiser competition. Using Mobile Phone Ads can be very effective for certain businesses targeting a young and quickly growing demographic. For advertisers also looking to build brand awareness, this is a very effective method, with great value for money.

Currently there are 1 billion internet users through the PC, however there are 3 billion people use mobile devises. For the new phones, 3 has linked up some impressive partnerships; Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Ebay and Skype; which increase the potential of this new advertising medium for our clients.

Google

Google has a deal with the 3 Network to provide mobile phone ads on their mobile phones. Sales of 3 phones are looking very promising for the next 4 years and will revolutionise our perception of the mobile phone. We can make the most of this growing traffic flow to provide relevant adverts at the right time. Google has been using mobile phone adverts the longest. At present, it receives 1 million search queries a day through the mobile phone worldwide, and is growing at a rapid rate. Through advertising with Google Adwords we can set up adverts that will appear on mobile phones with internet capabilities. Not only that, but we can assign geographical locations where you only want to appear in.

Searches made through Google web will display Sponsored Links at the top of the results. It will contain a much shorter ad text to be user friendly. The two functions that we are able to set up are click-to-call function (i.e. when the advert is clicked the user is connected straight to the advertiser), or click to view the mobile website.

We can set up mobile phone ads to target the following countries on Google: the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, China, Australia, US, India and Japan.

Google is also experimenting with delivering brand-image and video ads onto small-screen mobile phones. It is enjoying early success in its strategy to win phone network allies in Japan, where TV viewing and shopping on phones is advanced.

In the UK, Mobile Phone Ads are visible to users with O2, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone as providers. Ads are charged on the CPC basis.

Yahoo!

We can also set up mobile phone ads through Yahoo!'s mobile network. In September 2006 Yahoo began tests of the search based mobile phone advertising in the UK and US and is now coming to a close.

Through WAP Ads on Yahoo, you will be able to make the most of the 520,000 searches in the next year. The average Click-Through-Rate for mobile phone ads is a lot higher than through the internet; proving to be a better form of lead capture than Pay Per Click.

Yahoo also offers the ability to create your own mobile website free of charge. Advertisers can bring in a lot more business, as the average CTR of ads is over 30% for the top two positions. We have close ties with Yahoo and have a dedicated mobile phone ads account manager who will advise us with the new technology and how best to get the performance our clients require.

The major advantages that Yahoo has over Google is it has a deal with Orange to provide the search listings. Orange receives 20% of all UK mobile search queries, making a total of around 40 million searches a year. Not only that, but a deal with Vodafone is being processed. Vodafone has 16.3 million customers in the UK and Yahoo! will have exclusivity to provide sponsored links to its internet users. These deals give Yahoo huge traffic sources to advertise to.

Yahoo works in the same way as Google as we can set mobile ads to go to the website or for them to call the advertiser. The ranking of adverts works in the same way as online, so the highest bidder will get top position. We will monitor and manage the traffic and make it more effective.

In the UK, Mobile Phone Ads are visible to users with 02, Vodafone, and Orange as providers. Ads are charged on the CPC basis.

MSN

Microsoft has teamed up with Ingenio to provide Pay Per Call advertising on mobile phones in the early part of October 2006. Ingenio will allow browsers to click on an advert to call the advertiser.

MSN also provides Banner Advertising and is looking into providing the same mobile search service as Google and Yahoo. This technology is very new, and has only be running since early October 2006. Despite a lack in the advertising options on the MSN Mobile portal, there are a number of benefits.

Mobile phone adverts can be location targeted in the same way as Google. Through MSN, we offer a service to build a professional WAP website (Microsite) for mobile capabilities. The WAP Microsite can be utilized on Google and Yahoo, and is not exclusive just to MSN.

There are more capabilities that MSN has in the pipeline; it currently has local web search available for the US, and hopefully this will soon be available in the UK.

Pricing model for the banner advertising is done on the number of impressions, i.e. we will charge you for every thousand impressions. This method is different to Google and Yahoo, however we find this model ideal for brand building.
